Effective Teaching of Mandatory Topics

No Dates Currently Scheduled

By nature, mandatory training topics in group homes for people with developmental disabilities are important and require a serious commitment of both time and energy by a supervisor.  The information required is often so detailed, extensive, repetitive, overly concrete or abstract, that learning and retention actually become impaired. These conditions create a frustrating experience for both the teacher and the learner.

This interactive train-the-trainer course will not only provide the most current information on important mandatory training topics, but also offer ideas, methods and materials needed to provide effective training to direct support staff.

Included in this course is information on three essential mandatory trainings for staff who work with people who have developmental disabilities:

¨ Consumer Rights, including data privacy requirements/HIPAA Regulations

¨ Rule 40 Regulations, covering Aversive and Deprivation Procedures

¨ The Vulnerable Adults Act, specifying reporting requirements and procedures

Supervisors attending this training will learn how to expertly use provided training materials and competency tests that can help reduce the liability of organizations during surveys and investigations.

Most importantly, this course will help supervisors train their staff to provide respectful care that is thoroughly documented and in keeping with best practices.  Designed to be truly learner-centered, the methods supervisors learn in this course will help make training these topics both exciting and practical.
