The Process of Aging
As people with developmental disabilities age the services they need change, and those providing care must change their interactions or face significant frustration. This training provides an overview of aging, including the following topics:
Discussing aging issues along with programming implications will help you provide more respectful care with wellness enhancing goals and realistic expectations.
Alzheimer's Disease
With an understanding of the stages if Alzheimer's disease and practical guidelines for providing care, you will be able to better meet the needs of the people with this disabling disease.
End of Life Issues
As we learn to serve others throughout the cycle of life, we come face to face with their mortality. The use of hospice services and DNR issues are explored in an effort to prepare staff for the process of death.
This relevant course on the aging process and end of life issues is intended for unlicesensed staff, program directors, site managers, administrators, social workers, and community-based nurses.

Karen Finck, RN, MS, CS, is an expert in psychiatric nursing and the president of HCS. An engaging speaker, Ms. Finck lectures throughout Minnesota on mental health topics.
