Asperger's Syndrome (AS) is an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which has a distinct group of neurological patterns characterized by impairment in language, social skills, and communication skills, as well as repetitive or restrictive patterns of thought and behavior.
All aspects of life are affected by Asperger's Syndrome. Even though people with AS have average to superior intelligence, deficits in life management skills, executive functioning, and relationships with others contribute to difficulties living independently and performing well in a job.
This workshop is designed for anyone assisting individuals with AS. You will gain a better understanding of the syndrome by learning about the behavior, language, and social interaction characteristics of AS. You will also learn how to assess the level of support needed and identify strategies and approaches for skill development. Employment and worksite challenges will also be discussed.
There will be time devoted to case consultation. You are encouraged to bring questions.
Program directors, direct care staff, job coaches, nurses, and social workers will benefit from this workshop.
