DepressionDepression is the most common form of mental illness. Knowledge of the symptoms of depression and understanding treatment approaches will give you a good foundation for working with people who are experiencing a major depressive episode. You will learn how to intervene, how to communicate when someone feels hopeless, and how to obtain care when someone is suicidal.
Challenging BehaviorsAll behavior is meaningful and even very difficult behaviors are an attempt to communicate with another. Techniques to avoid power struggles and avoid personalizing negative energy will assist you to remain more centered in difficult situations. Learning the ABC’s of behavior will help you to develop appropriate interventions for challenging behaviors.
The changes that occur in menopause have widespread effects on women's health. Changes in the balance between estrogen and progesterone levels can produce distressing physical symptoms. There are many natural ways to manage the symptoms of menopause; hormone replacement therapy is discussed as well.
Emotional Abuse and ShameThis powerful in-service identifies all the forms of emotional abuse. Use of imagery gives insight on how emotional abuse affects self-esteem. Different facets of shame are explored as well as the relationship between shame and rage. Knowing how to intervene when witnessing emotional abuse returns us to a state of power.
Stress ManagementHow we cope with stress may be one of the most important factors to our health and wellbeing. Specific techniques for stress reduction are practiced in this training. We can learn to use our body, mind, and spirit to live a more relaxed and joyful life.
Teaching TechniquesIn your work with people who have mild developmental disabilities, you may do a significant amount of teaching. Learning about specific cognitive impairments of people who have mild developmental disabilities is necessary to eliminate frustration and confusion from the teaching process. Specific multi-faceted teaching techniques and consistent approaches can help to meet the specialized needs of the individuals you serve and create a rewarding teaching experience for you.
Caring for the CaregiverIn their desire to help others, caregivers often give more than they receive. Stress, excessive responsibility, and the need to do things perfectly can contribute to feeling overworked and overwhelmed. If you find that you become depleted from your work, learning to take care of yourself can increase your energy, balance your life, and renew your spirit.
Intuition & EmpathyAs a caregiver, you most certainly have empathy- the ability to feel someone else’s emotions as if they were you own. This ability is a form of intuition and it is a gift with can greatly benefit others. However, if you are not aware and protective of your own needs, your empathy may become emotional sensitivity and cause you hurt and pain. Learn techniques and tools to balance your empathy and use your gift wisely.
Boundary Issues and Therapeutic RelationshipsThe dynamics of professional boundaries will be discussed in home care, hospital and assisted living settings. You will learn about maintaining emotional boundaries with clients and keeping safe parameters for yourself, your clients and your agency. Specific techniques for setting limits without rejection will be practiced.
You will learn methods to develop the three qualities necessary to establish therapeutic relationships. Your relationship with your clients is essential to their healing process and vital to your job satisfaction. This three hour training offers you an important opportunity for personal growth.
Creating a Positive WorkplaceA stressful, negative workplace depletes our energy, reduces productivity, and limits creativity. We spend many hours of our day at work. It is important that we are surrounded by a positive and supportive work environment. Using imagery, affirmation, and self-reflection, we discuss the principles for creating positive energy in our workplace.
Boundary Issues in Community SettingsMaintaining healthy boundaries can be complicated for nurses and/or direct care staff when they are providing care where the client lives. This in-service offers valuable insights on boundary issues in either home care, assisted living, nursing home, or group home settings. Understanding emotional, professional and legal boundaries enables staff to recognize situations that have the potential for boundary violations. Practicing respectful techniques for limit setting gives staff specific skills necessary for effective relationships with clients. Learning to maintain healthy boundaries will help to keep your clients, your staff, and your organization safe.
