In-Home Psychiatric Nursing

HCS contracts with United Behavioral Health (UBH) to provide in-home psychiatric nursing services.

In-home services are frequently requested after discharge from the hospital or to prevent a psychiatric hospitalization. In-home psychiatric nursing can also offer valuable assessment information regarding the client's ability to function in their living environment.

  • In-Home Psychiatric Nursing may include:
  • Evaluation of medication compliance
  • Developing self medication programs to improve medication compliance
  • Administration of injectable psychotropic medications
  • Evaluation of effectiveness and side-effects of medication
  • Assessment of Psychiatric Status
  • Coordination of care with mental health providers
  • Education about psychiatric diagnosis, medication and side-effects
  • Psychotherapy
  • Teaching relaxation techniques
  • Assessment of parenting skills
  • Referral to other health care professionals
  • Developing care plans to promote treatment and prevent relapse
  • Assistance in increasing coping mechanisms and support systems

All referrals for in-home psychiatric nursing must be made through UBH.
