In-Home Psychiatric Nursing
HCS contracts with United Behavioral Health (UBH) to provide in-home psychiatric nursing services.
In-home services are frequently requested after discharge from the hospital or to prevent a psychiatric hospitalization. In-home psychiatric nursing can also offer valuable assessment information regarding the client's ability to function in their living environment.
- In-Home Psychiatric Nursing may include:
- Evaluation of medication compliance
- Developing self medication programs to improve medication compliance
- Administration of injectable psychotropic medications
- Evaluation of effectiveness and side-effects of medication
- Assessment of Psychiatric Status
- Coordination of care with mental health providers
- Education about psychiatric diagnosis, medication and side-effects
- Psychotherapy
- Teaching relaxation techniques
- Assessment of parenting skills
- Referral to other health care professionals
- Developing care plans to promote treatment and prevent relapse
- Assistance in increasing coping mechanisms and support systems
All referrals for in-home psychiatric nursing must be made through UBH.
